Personal Time in the Word

Overview and Purpose

This page is to help equip believers in their personal time in the Word of God. You will find it divided into four sections. Each of these are distinct and important to have in your life. In each section, you will find resources, tips, and suggestions to help you cultivate these into your everyday life.

Reading focuses on the time spent in the Word of God either in a devotional style or in its intended method. For example, many New Testament books were written as letters. These would have been read in a single sitting rather than by "chapter."

Study focuses on time spent in the Word of God through analysis of the text and its features. The emphasis is to learn in a systematic way by working, thinking, and especially praying through the Word of God.

Meditation builds on the previous two sections but flows throughout the rest of your day. This time focuses your mind and heart on the truth that you enjoyed in your reading and study time.

Memorization focuses on time spent actively seeking to remember what the Word of God says and being able to recite from memory.
