Episode 80: Tips and Tricks
A Purpose and Plan in Bible Study

There are so many interruptions and things that discourage our time in the Word of God. In this helpful talk, Scott DeGroff talks about the things he does to direct his time in the scriptures to help us combat any distractions and get the most out of our time.

Episode 79: Grow and Shine
That You May Be Healed

"Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16) When trespasses enter our relationships, healing is required. So often we try to navigate these situations without confession, without prayer. This simple (but not always easy) formula is the one given to us for healing. We discuss the benefits of this truth along with the dangers of ignoring it.

Episode 78: Treasured Discoveries
Sanctified by the Word

"Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." (John 17:17) This simple but profound statement is found in the prayer of the Lord Jesus to His Father "for those who will believe in Me" (v. 20). This is directly applied to us by the Lord Himself! Sanctification is the current focus of God in our lives and His truth provides the key.

Episode 77: Resource Review
Inductive Bible Study Method

When you sit down to study the Bible, what system or method helps you examine the word of God? Our new guest, Matt Jolley, has been disciplining young men and women with his wife for many years. The inductive study method is what Matt has used to teach others to study the word for themselves. In this episode, we discuss the practices, benefits, and give some starting tips for those wanting to start with this method.

Episode 76: Treasured Discoveries
God's Faithfulness

"Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness." Psalm 37:3 The faithfulness of God spans the pages of the Bible in the same way that it "reaches to the clouds" (Ps 36:5). This truth is surely something to treasure in its unshakable consistency, its practical implications, and its transformative effects on our own lives. We start in the wilderness with the children of Israel and examine, not only the faithfulness of God, but the lack of faithfulness of the people and in personal reflection we are thankful that "If we are faithless, He remains faithful" (2 Tim. 2:13).

Episode 75: Tips and Tricks
Introduction to Shepherding

Another episode from 10 years ago! This time we have a conversation with John Heller about shepherding the flock of God. Who should be doing this? How should it be done? How can I get started? This short introduction gives some good first steps into understanding the role that God has offered to those looking to serve Him.

Episode 74: Resource Review
Historical Testimonies

"Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith." (Hebrews 13:7) Learning about christians from the past can be a rewarding activity, if their lives point you to the Savior. There are many great resources to learn these stories but one that makes the story jump of the page is the ministry of Vickie Gaynier. We discuss the origins of her character acting and the different people from history that she performs for audiences. We also discuss how you can share in the experience as well! (Links Provided)

Episode 73: Tools for Study
Poetry

A section of the Bible that can difficult for people to study is the poetry section from Job to the Song of Solomon. We do not want to simply break it into its parts. To do so would be like directing a butterfly. You might understand it but it won't fly any more. Instead, we want to identify the components in the poetry that accentuate the meaning. This episodes gives a few starting places to give you direction in these beautiful books.

Episode 72: Resource Review
God's Passion for His Glory

A book within a book! A review focused on the Jonathan Edwards book titled, The End for Which God Created the World along with a review of John Piper's commentary on it in his book titled, God's Passion for His Glory. With suggestions, highlights, and a few tangential thoughts from our own studies in the scriptures, this review should give you plenty of insight as to whether this book is right for your next read.

Episode 71: Treasured Discoveries
Worship

As we spend time in the word of God, we want the word of God to be planted in us and produce fruit in our lives. King Josiah hears the reading of the word, receives it humbly, and then what is the first order of business? Reinstate true worship to God! As we spend time reading and studying the Bible, one of the outflows should be worship.
